Beautifully located in Shanklin Old Village

The Bedford Lodge is ideally situated in the beautiful Shanklin Old Village and is set in its own south facing, private gardens with sloping lawns, mature trees, flowering bushes and a sun terrace with views towards the Downs. The Bedford has been welcoming guests to the Isle of Wight for over 150 years, and was built in the 1840’s overlooking the Chine and it makes an idyllic spot in which to relax and unwind.

The beach and Shanklin Esplanade are at the end of the road and Tower Cottage Park and Shanklin Chine are opposite. Ideally situated for walking and cycling (link to our cycling page) trails, it’s attractively placed for people who like to explore this wonderful island.

Travelling to Shanklin

There are many ways to reach this wonderful island, and we will do all we can to assist you with your arrangements. Once here, we have an easy to use bus service, which includes a round-the-island explorer route and we are also served by the island's electric train service from Ryde.

Ferry Crossings

We are agents for WIGHTLINK and RED FUNNEL. When you book accommodation with us we can normally get preferred rates on the ferry crossing as well. We take the hassle out of booking ferry travel, the Ferry terminals are fairly small and a member of staff greets every car at the terminal entrance, so don’t worry about what to do when you get there.

Parking

We have our own private car park which is free for guests to use. It is very tucked out of the way and is accessed around the back of the building. So you will need these directions.

By Bus

We have an excellent bus service on the island run by Southern Vectis. With a weeks adult Freedom ticket costing only £20.

We have a bus stop close to us in the Old Village which is on the bus route numbers 2 and 3.

The special ISLAND COASTER bus also stops in the village and goes right round the coast to Yarmouth and Allum Bay.

By Train

We encourage everyone to think about taking the train to Shanklin Station, which is only 10 minutes away.

For rail and foot passengers, Wightlink offer a 'Fast Cat' catamaran service from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier. From here you connect very easily connect to the Island Line train, with a direct service to Shanklin, which takes approximately 20 minutes.

Flying

We are a 5 minute drive from Sandown Airport and approximately 20 from Bembridge.
