Green Accommodation With The Environment In Mind
It's the aim of the Bedford Lodge to continue a path of sustainability in tourism to help preserve and
enhance the wonderful Isle of Wight for future generations and visitors. There is an exciting initiative
on the island called Eco-island, which is a whole package of targets for the Isle of Wight. These
include having the lowest carbon footprint in the UK and creating a centre of excellence in renewable
energies with a generating capacity of over 100Mw of electricity by 2020.
We fully support the council's initiatives and have joined the Green Island Scheme, this year rising from
a Bronze to a Silver Award. We are also members of the National Green Tourism Business Scheme.
We are luckily set in a mature garden and our beautiful Beech Trees, Victoria, Lady Isabella, Julia, Lizzie
and Ellen, that stand along Chine Avenue, are featured in the Shanklin Histree Trail, No 7. We are visited
by lots of wildlife including Red Squirrels.
We support our two local charities The Wight Squirrel Project and also Gift to Nature by fundraising in
the hotel Cake sales, Donation boxes, and also donating all hire and lost property handling charges.
Our currently totals as of July 08
Lost Property £30
Cake Sales £15
Collection Boxes yet to be opened
Hire Charges £12
As a visitor to the Lodge all we ask is you use the facilities with the environment in mind. A few simple
things add up to a lot.
- Turn off your lights and TV when not in use
- Help us by recycling your newspapers in the porch
- Try to use public transport when possible
- Get out and enjoy the natural beauty of this wonderful island
